Color can be one of the most important things for our wellbeing and we are not using them enough!

Ever needed an excuse to add more color to your home, then this is it.

Did you know you can use colored lights to affect your mood and increase your health and wellbeing? You can completely change the atmosphere of any room, evoke feelings and change the way people behave all with the color of your lighting.

We already do this through chromotherapy and sensory lighting. Chromotherapy and sensory lighting look at how different colored lights effects us and how we can use this to make positive changes to our health and wellbeing.

Ever felt like you couldn’t just relax when you got home after a long stressful day at work?
Well, Research published in PLOS ONE in 2017 shows that light blue lighting “accelerates the relaxation process after stress in comparison with conventional white lighting”(1). So no more stressing yourself out over trying to destress. Just set your lighting to light blue and let your body naturally do the rest.

So what else can we do with colored lights?

Red

Exposure to red lighting can give you more energy as it can elevate your blood pressure and heart rate and reduce tiredness(2). Red lighting can be ideal for students who are staying up late trying to get their assignments in before the midnight deadline. You can use red lighting to keep focused, alert, and on task, with no worry of falling asleep at your desks as many students have experienced.

Green

The color green has a calming effect. Scientists believe this is because we positively associate green with nature. Through evolution, our brains have been hardwired to believe that green in nature indicates that there is a safe place where we can find shelter, food, and water(3).

Because the color green makes us feel calm, researchers have found that being surrounded by green inspires creativity too(4). So next time you want to let a book take you on a crazy adventure or want to feel inspired and paint from your imagination, try doing this surrounded by some green light and see where it takes you!

Blue

The color blue is often described as everyone's favorite color, and we see it everywhere. Every wonder why most office appliances come in blue? Well, according to research, blue is linked to productivity. Being surrounded by blue lighting has been proven to keep you on track of tasks and get more done throughout the day(5).

Purple

Purple is a unique color and is not often seen in nature, creating an exotic feel/mood when used in spaces. Designers and architects will use the color purple in their designs to trick our brains into thinking they are more luxurious than if they were a different color. Purple lighting not only helps to create luxurious spaces but has been proven to help reduce emotional and mental stress(6).

There's nothing better than jumping into the swimming pool to relax after an exhausting day. With LightEFX pool lighting solutions, you can set your pool lights to purple to help your mind relax quicker while also letting the neighbors know your pool is luxurious when they have a sneak peek into your backyard.

Yellow

You will often associate the color yellow with sickness and hospitals, but why do you think this is? This is because the color yellow has been proven to make people feel happy when around it, and feeling happy ultimately helps you and your body to recover and feel better(7). This is why you will see the color yellow in hospitals and healthcare facilities, to make patients feel happier and promote health and wellbeing.

White

The color white promotes peacefulness and cleanliness. White can be used to manipulate how we perceive things, like making a space appear bigger than what it really is. White lighting is also used in many ways to create peaceful and calming environments. White lighting can stimulate serotonin production and help regulate sleep(8). Filling nurseries and children’s sleeping areas with StarEFX white starlight ceilings is a great way to calm children down and help facilitate regular sleeping cycles.
